A glimpse of Michigan…
Our First Skype
Last week, Emerald Class finally arranged a skype with our friends in Grade 2 from Michigan. Because they are five hours behind us, we had to arrange a time that worked for both of us. We decided that we would skype with them 2:00 p.m our time, which is 9:00 a.m their time. After a few technical difficulties, (we could see them, but unfortunately they couldn’t see us) we listened very well to how their school day is different to ours and even shared a few jokes! We all had a great time sharing our experiences. Here is a video of us in action!

Our Trip to Greece
As our new topic is all about the Olympics, we have spent some time in class learning about the History of the The Olympics.
The children decided that they wanted to discover and get a real feel for the Ancient games in Greece. We therefore decided to get our passports and travel to Greece for the afternoon! We boarded our very own ‘Boeing Emerald’, watched an in flight safety video and had a smooth take off!
When we arrived in Greece, there were lots of activities to keep us busy. We spent some time trying some Greek cuisine, making and writing postcards to send home to our friends and family, decorating Greek flags, toga tying lessons, writing our names and messages using the Greek alphabet and making wreaths of leaves (which were the equivalent of receiving a trophy or a medal).
We all had an enjoyable afternoon. It was great to escape the English rain and learn some more about Greek traditions.
Little Red Riding Hood
What is your favourite part of the story? Who is your favourite character?
Traditional Tale Homework
What do you like about the story Cinderella?
Traditional Tales
In Literacy we have been learning about traditional tales. We’ve spent some time looking at settings and characters in the story of Little Red Riding Hood. For homework last week we asked the children to show us what they’ve learnt so far. Have a look at the great homework we’ve been given!
What is your favourite traditional tale?
The Olympics
For the Summer term, Emerald Class will be learning about The Olympics. We have been given the country Hungary to research and follow.
Over the Easter we asked the children to begin their research in preparation for our new topic.
Some children have made some great flags, posters and much more, which you will find displayed in our shared area.
In the meantime, here is another great homework video all about Hungary. Enjoy!
